Do you need a fast, effective technique for securing your air cargo? Have you thought of odourology? This technique, which has been validated by the French Civil Aviation Technical Service (STAC) enables you to secure your air cargo easily, by calling on a specialized canine team.
Odourology, or the science of smells, makes use of dogs' exceptional flair for identifying specific smells among several samples.
First of all, officers will collect samples of air using fabric-contact which will then be put in jars. Sampling must be carried out in an area which has been contained for at least two hours.
In premises, specifically dedicated to odourology work, the dog will be placed in contact with a smell used as a benchmark (e.g. explosives), then it will compare this smell with the smells of the different jars in the room. These
jars contain lures and samples to be analysed.
The dog, specifically trained for this, will lie down in front of the jar where it has detected the smell sought.
Odourology is an incredible timesaver when securing air cargo. There is no need to unload the truck to check its contents, and no need to use costly equipment to analyse all the cargo. A simple sample
of smell from the merchandize is all it takes for the cargo to be analysed using odourology.
Occasionally, given the size and nature of the cargo, odourology is the only means possible for secure screening.
To date, nothing is faster or more effective for securing airport cargo.
The odourology techniques we use are the fruit of a partnership with CYNO•DEV.
CYNO•DEV is also responsible for training our dog handlers and our dogs working with odourology.
